Session: Openly Supporting Open Source
Open source struggles to be sustainable for a myriad of reasons. Additionally almost all code written commercially relies in some way on open source code. Yet this code is not immune to problems. One way to help address this is to adequately support open source projects with partnerships as well as financially.
Netlify made the move to do this yet remain outside of the roadmaps of various Jamstack projects to help level up the whole Ecosystem. If the community succeeds we succeed. This was not a decision taken lightly as it impacts many things.
Come along to learn how and why we made this choice. And how you might go about this within your company. As with all things it takes intentionality to provide this support and to set all parties up for success. Expectations need to be managed and realistic outcomes understood. And this is not just governance. It’s how teams and projects are run. Learn from our experiences to level up yours!
