Session: Codifying Privacy: How To Follow Through On Your Privacy Promises
Privacy and trust: as developers, we all want to deliver on these principles, but what do they mean in practice? One great place to start is ensuring that your software is actually handling personal data in the way your user-facing policies say it does. It’s about following through on your privacy promises. Not only is our profession increasingly responsible for key parts of delivering on privacy guarantees; we’re in a position to make privacy more meaningful and enforceable than ever.
In this talk, I will (1) diagnose common hurdles that can keep even the best-intentioned devs stuck in a game of privacy catch-up, and (2) share low-friction, open-source approaches for any team to describe and embed privacy in CI/CD pipelines. Attendees will return to their own projects with an actionable view of how to proactively implement their unique privacy responsibilities. This talk is for any developer, whether you work at a company with an in-house privacy team or are looking to bolster the privacy of your solo projects.
