Especially in open-source communities, social capital, or the sense of trust, notoriety, and empowerment in a community, is critical to converting passive project followers into long-term contributors and veteran members. But how does one measure their social capital? By measuring the quantitative behaviors that provide that capital and the qualitative user sentiment that shows your progress. This talk will introduce several methods of measuring community transparency, utility, consistency, merit, and reputation – from beginner tracking methods to expert approaches.
