Jilayne Lovejoy


Jilayne is a US lawyer and community leader and has held various community and in-house roles related to open source. She is commercial counsel at Red Hat working with Red Hat product teams on a variety of issues. Prior to Red Hat, Jilayne was at Canonical. She was principal open source counsel at Arm, where she advised legal, business, and engineering on open source related issues, provided training, and drove improved processes related to open source, including forming and chairing the Arm Open Source Office. Jilayne began her legal career as sole counsel at OpenLogic, a visionary provider of open source software support, provisioning, and compliance solutions to enterprises where she cut her teeth to become a recognised expert on various aspects of open source licensing and development.

Jilayne leads the Linux Foundation sponsored Software Package Data Exchange® (SPDX) legal team and is one of the maintainers of the SPDX License List. She co-authored the Fintech Open Source Foundation’s Open Source License Compliance Handbook, an open-licensed, straight forward human and machine readable handbook for license compliance. In her spare time, she can be found riding her bike(s) in the mountains of Colorado.
